It’s no secret that newborns are one of my favorite subjects to photograph. While I love posing newborns and getting those sweet sleepy shots of them all curled up I think my favorite part of newborn sessions are working with the family during this amazing time of them welcoming their little one into the world. Being able to capture their love for their child is so fulfilling to me personally and professionally. Below are common questions asked regarding a newborn session with Tami.
When should I schedule my newborn session?
Due to the fact that a newborn session is best taken place between 5-12 days old please contact me to set up your session before you have your baby, preferably in your second trimester when possible to ensure a spot for you on my calendar. However, please do not hesitate to contact me if you are in your third trimester or if your baby has already arrived. I always try to squeeze newborns into my schedule because they are my speciality.
Does the session really need to take place between 5-12 days of age?
Yes, staying within this time frame is recommended if you are looking for those adorable sleepy posed shots of your baby. This is when your baby is the smallest they will ever be, still curled, and very sleepy. Plus babies change so dramatically in such a short amount of time. You will be amazed how different your baby looks at one month! Having said that I love doing more lifestyle sessions for newborns three weeks and older.
How much do newborn sessions cost?
The newborn sessions fee includes the session time, 30-40 fully edited images in a 7 day online gallery. All prints, products, digital files are purchased separately. Please contact Tami for a full price list.
- In-studio newborn session: $150
- In-home lifestyle newborn session: $225 (Includes travel up to 20 miles form 80016.)
How long will my newborn photography session take?
Newborn photography sessions take between 2-3 hours and, depending on the baby’s disposition, it may take up to 4 hours. I like to keep the atmosphere very relaxed and allow time for breaks for feeding and changing.
Where will the session take place?
The session can take place at your home or my studio. My studio is highly recommended for optimal lighting and provides the most amount of props, etc. However, in home sessions are popular with my clients looking for lifestyle images of their baby and family rather than the posed sleeping images with props. Please know both sessions allow for both family and sibling images as well.
What happens during a newborn session?
In-home newborn sessions are when I come to your home and capture your family in your environment and the images are more lifestyle in nature. Images are often taken in the baby’s nursery, living room or family bed using items that are found in your home.
Newborn sessions that take place in my home based studio are primarily focused on the baby with the last 30 minutes of the session focused on family and/sibling shots. You will also have access to all of my props, hats, headbands, etc.
Do you take pictures of the family as well?
Absolutely! I love when mom, dad and siblings want to be included in the session. This is included in the session fee.
Can I book a simplicity mini session for my newborn session?
No, the traditional newborn session that results in the posed sleeping shots of your baby takes between 3-4 hours in length and therefore a 20-30 minute mini session will not work for this type of session. Simplicity sessions are best for maternity or child sessions.
Who supplies all the cute hats/headbands for the baby?
I have a large supply of hats, headbands and wraps that I will bring to the session or have available at your studio session. If you have any hats or items you would like included please set them aside for the session. I love to include anything personal to the family.
What should we wear for the family pictures?
I always suggest first and foremost to wear something you are comfortable in and try to stay with soft toned solid colors. If you would like a more traditional look then wear black long sleeve shirts but I have found many of my clients like a more modern light and airy look and will wear soft, muted colors. To keep the focus on the baby stay away from loud prints and patterns.
Do you have a Baby’s First Year plan?
Yes! You can view details on my baby plan HERE.
